The Federal Reserve System is in the WhitePages

by Stephan Smith on February 17, 2011

If you have read my explanation regarding the central bank of the United States, the Federal Reserve (proper name: Federal Reserve System), then you should be aware of my belief that the Federal Reserve is an independent profit making banking institution and not a non-profit, government ran agency. When I say that the FED is an independent institution, I mean it is independent from the United States government. The Federal Reserve is not a government agency, but actually a private business with few public aspects.

The Federal Reserve misleads many people into believing that they are part of the United States government. The official website of the FED, www.federalreserve.gov, has a government extension (.gov), implying that it is a government agency, or at least part of some government agency. The word ‘federal’ is used in their business name, implying that the Federal Reserve is a federal government agency. Those are deceptive tactics used to deceive many into believe something that is not true; the untruth that the FED is government owned and ran.

Recently, I’ve encountered an intriguing piece of evidence that suggests other entities out there agree with me regarding the FED. This evidence suggests WhitePages, Inc, believes that the Federal Reserve System is not part of the United States government, but actually a business like commercial banks Bank of America, Wachovia, Wells Fargo and others. What is that evidence? The Federal Reserve System is listed in the WhitePages’ directory.

Before I show you the listing, allow me to explain what the WhitePages is and why it is significant that the Federal Reserve System is listed in them. As provided by WhitePages, Inc through their website, WhitePages.com on the ‘About Us’ page, the WhitePages…

…is your go-to source for the most reliable contact information online for the U.S. With one-click access to over 200 million adults and more than 15 million businesses, we make finding and connecting with others incredibly simple—and incredibly free.

-WhitePages.com (source)

Basically, the WhitePages is a free directory that lists 200 million adults and 15 million businesses that are located in the United States. Notice that the WhitePages said it lists adults and businesses. The WhitePages doesn’t claim to list any government entities of any kind in their directory, just individuals (adults) and businesses.

Now that you have an understanding as to what the WhitePages is, now is time for me to explain why it is significant that the Federal Reserve System listed in them. To be blunt, it’s significant because it is implying that the Federal Reserve System is a business. We all can agree that the FED is not an adult. But is may be a business, and it is a business.

I now want to start showing you the listings, but first, a question. Are there any known government agencies listed in the WhitePages? If the WhitePages did list government agencies in their directory, I would imagine that they would state that on their ‘about us’ page. But even if they forget to include that detail, let’s do some test searches.

First, I’ll open my browser and go to the New York Times. The reason I am doing this is to show you the date that I am conducting this little experiment of mine.

New York Times homepage with the date at Februrary 17th, 20111

Date: Februrary 17th, 2011

Now that I have established the date, now its time to go to whitepages.com. To conduct a search, you have to specify a business name or business category and city and state. Let’s start with the United States’ department of Treasury. According to the official website of the U.S. department of Treasury at treasury.gov, the address of the department of Treasury is…

Department of the Treasury
1500 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20220

So I will type into the WhitePages website the name of the government agency I am searching for, which is the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the city, which is Washington D.C. This is what it looks like.

And just as I would expect, I got no results. Why? Because the U.S. Department of the Treasury is neither an adult or a business. So it makes sense that it isn’t listed in the WhitePages’ directory.

Let’s try another one. How about the government agency that actually manufactures and prints the United States dollar, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. According to the official website of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), the BEP is located in two locations, Washington D.C. and Fort Worth, Texas.

Since I’m already searching in Washington D.C., I’m going to attempted to find the Bureau of Engraving and Printing using the WhitePages directory using the same location.

Of course, after I hit the ‘Find’ button, I got no results. Once again, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is neither an individual (adult) or a business, but a government agency.

Ok, I think you have the idea that no government entities should show up in the WhitePages’ directory, for government entities don’t meet the criteria for a WhitePages listing. But what happens when I do a search for the Federal Reserve? Theoretically, they shouldn’t show up, for they are an entity within government…right? Please check my article on the Federal Reserve to review some of their claims.

According to the Federal Reserve as transmitted by their website, the location of their headquarters is…

Federal Reserve Website Address

20th Street and Constitution Avenue NW, Washington D.C. 20551

So I begin to enter in my search on WhitePages.com.

When I click the ‘Find’ button, guess what I see…

The WhitePages search results for Federal Reserve

Look, I get 3 listings.

As you see, I get 3 listings. The first two listings’ addresses don’t match the address provided on the Federal Reserve’s website and because of that, I will dismiss them. But the third listing’s address does. Let’s take a closer look.

WhitePages listing details page for Federal Reserve

The address on the WhitePages listing details page for the Federal Reserve matches the address given on the official Federal Reserve website.

The third listing is a match. The Federal Reserve has a listing in the WhitePages. Now what does that mean? Is that proof that the Federal Reserve is a business? No. It doesn’t prove that the Federal Reserve is a business. This is what it suggests…

The Federal Reserve having its own listing in the WhitePages’ directory is evidence that the fine people at WhitePages, Inc believe that the Federal Reserve is a private business, and so do I.

Even if the people at WhitePages, Inc decided to remove the Federal Reserve listing from their directory, I would still consider the Federal Reserve a private profiting banking institution, for its actions tell me that it is.

See Joe Stojsic proved you wrong. He went to the Fed Res Bank’s website and was able to get clear, concrete evidence that they are not a business. The Banks would never lie to us. They are built on compassion and integrity and only want to help us…just OBEY! Don’t bring up all these irrefutable facts just OBEY!

Federal Reserve is a *Statutory* body but neither Treasury nor the Bureau of Engraving and Printing are, so your comparisons are not valid. The Fed is “independent within the government” rather than “independent of government.” http://www.federalreserve.gov/faqs/about_14986.htm
